Introduced Species

Dandelions are, of course, weeds. But they are one of the first flowers in the yard each spring, and the insects love them.

I try to plant native species in the yard, and I do so each spring. But few of them survive since I forget to water them, and often can't find them among the weeds the following year. But the dandelions are always with us - to the delight of the bees and other insects.

But not so much this year. And it makes me worried. Where are the insects that, in previous springs not long ago, covered the dandelion heads?

The Guardian: The dandelions should be crowded; instead, a solitary bee
